Cancer Research PPI and Engagement Manager
In November 2025, the Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Network (NICTN) and Belfast Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) welcomed Aileen Major to a newly established role within their team as Cancer Research PPI and Engagement Manager.
In this role, Aileen works in partnership with members of the Northern Ireland Cancer Research Consumer Forum, as well as with cancer research teams across clinical, academic, charitable and commercial settings in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Through her work, Aileen facilitates and supports Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), ensuring that the lived experience of patients informs and enhances the quality of cancer research for the benefit of all. A key aspect of her role involves promoting and communicating the aims of NICTN and ECMC, contributing to the shared objective of ensuring equitable access to clinical trials and cancer research opportunities for individuals across Northern Ireland.
Aileen is particularly committed to collaborative working, valuing the importance of involving others and sharing ideas. She is therefore greatly enjoying establishing new connections with patients, carers and professionals, while continuing to build upon the innovative involvement activity taking place within cancer research.
Prior to this appointment, Aileen held a range of clinical and management roles within the NHS. She has extensive experience working with patients, carers, educational and healthcare professionals across the National Health Service, higher education institutions, and statutory, community and voluntary sectors. Throughout her previous roles, PPI and engagement were integral, with a focus on direct involvement of patients and carers, as well as supporting staff to incorporate public involvement within service improvement initiatives.
For further information about Aileen’s role, she can be contacted via email at PPIECancerResearch@belfasttrust.hscni or by telephone on 028 9504 8736.
